The new Iron Cove Bridge
The new bridge was built using the incremental launch method.
- Ten piers support the bridge.
- Seven of these piers were built in the bed of Iron Cove.
- Eight concrete bridge segments were built on-site in a casting bay in the King George Park construction site and pushed, or launched, towards the abutment in Drummoyne.
- The first segment was cast and launched on 23 February 2010.
- The final segment was cast and launched on 23 September, 2010.
- Precast concrete beams were lifted into place to form the three remaining spans of the bridge at the bridge approaches in Drummoyne and Rozelle. The first beams were lifted into place over Henley Marine Drive, Drummoyne in March 2010. The remaining beams were installed in December 2010.
- Ancillary works including installation of road furniture and safety barriers completed the bridge in January 2011.
