Bus Corridor Program

Epping Road from Wicks to Delhi Roads
- Bus corridor 9

Work is proceeding on a project that will improve the movement of city-bound buses at North Ryde and the flow of general traffic into Delhi Road from Epping Road eastbound in the AM and PM traffic peaks.

On week days, 32 buses use Epping Road eastbound between Wicks Road and Delhi Road in the 7am to 9am traffic peak. In the 4pm to 6pm traffic peak, 30 buses use this section of Epping Road.

Each week day, more than 44,000 vehicles travel along the same eastbound section of Epping Road, with 3,500 vehicles heading towards Lane Cove between 7am and 8am. Of this number, some 700 vehicles or 20 per cent turn left into Delhi Road.

The project will reduce travel times by allowing buses to bypass traffic queues on Epping Road eastbound between Wicks Road and Delhi Road.

The project is fully funded by the NSW Government and forms part of a series of treatments and enhancements planned for Strategic Bus Corridor 9, which runs for about 25 kilometres between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Work on this project began in June 2011 and is scheduled to be completed by late 2011, weather permitting.

The project involves:

  • Relocating utilities to allow for road widening on Epping Road.
  • Extending the left turn traffic lane on to Delhi Road further west so that it starts at Wicks Road. This will improve traffic flow and make it easier for vehicles to access businesses located on the northern side of Epping Road.
  • Extending the bus only lane further west so it starts about midway between the Wicks Road and Delhi Road intersections.
  • Narrowing the centre median in Epping Road.
