Bus Corridor Program

Castle Hill to Sydney CBD and Parramatta - Bus Corridors 6 and 40

Bus priority Old Norther Road and Windsor Road

Bus priority improvements are being developed for two bus corridors that link Castle Hill with Parramatta and the Sydney CBD. The bus corridors are, Corridor 6 - Castle Hill to City via Macquarie and Corridor 40 - Castle Hill to Parramatta.

A $10 million bus priority facility to minimise bus delays and improve traffic flow at Baulkham Hills has been completed.

Works completed

Old Northern Road/Windsor Road

  • Narrowing the central median in Windsor Road southbound at Baulkham Hills to create a third southbound general traffic lane from some 125 metres north to Cook Street to the M2 Motorway on ramp.
  • Constructing a 24-hour southbound bus lane that operates in most of the section of Old Northern Road, Baulkham Hills, from just north of Olive Street to Windsor Road.
  • Reconfiguring parking spaces in the public car park at the corner of Windsor Road and Railway Street.
  • Providing left turn access into Railway Street from Windsor Road (Note: Left turns out of Windsor Road are not permitted for safety reasons).
  • Widening Raemont Lane to improve two-way access to compensate for the partial closure of the southern end of Railway Street.

Windsor Road/Church Street southbound

  • Converting the existing T2 lane into a red bus lane from Churchill Drive, Winston Hills, to Fletcher Street, Northmead.
  • Removal of the T2 lane between Fletcher Street and the James Ruse Drive/Briens Road intersection to provide better transition for general traffic.
  • Widening Windsor Road to extend the existing left turn between Campbell Street and James Ruse Drive.
  • Creating a red bus lane in Windsor Road at the approach to the intersection with James Ruse Drive and Briens Road.
  • Extending the existing right turn bay in Windsor Road at the intersection with Briens Road and James Ruse Drive.
  • Replacing the existing T2 kerbside lane with a morning peak red bus lane in Church Street between the James Ruse Drive/Briens Road intersection and Barney Street.
  • Providing a red AM bus lane between Seville Street and By Street.
  • Providing a 24-hour red bus lane from Harold Street to Ross Street.

Church Street/Windsor Road northbound

  • Providing a 24-hour red bus lane from Grose Street to the Albert Street/Pennant Hills Road intersection.
  • Providing a dual right turn lane to help buses and general traffic turn right from Church Street into Pennant Hills Road.
  • Creating a 24-hour red bus lane from Pennant Hills Road to North Rocks Road.
  • Maintaining three general traffic lanes from Board Street to The Junction shopping precinct.
  • Improving bus travel on strategic bus corridors serving Castle Hill.

What happens next?

Work on a combined bus lane and bus bay in Windsor Road, Northmead, between Hammers Road and Thomas Street began in May 2011.

The 180 metre long bus facility will allow northbound buses to pick up passengers in Windsor Road without impeding traffic flow and then merge into traffic lanes.
