Bus Corridor Program

Anzac Parade, Kingsford - Bus Corridor 30

Improving bus travel times on Anzac Parade northbound at Kingsford - Bus corridor 30

A 24-hour bus lane is being constructed on Anzac Parade on the southern approach to the Nine Ways roundabout at the intersection of Anzac Parade and Gardeners Road, Kingsford.

The bus lane will reduce delays for bus commuters and improve the reliability and efficiency of bus services on three bus corridors and one Metrobus route.

The bus corridors and bus services are:

  • Corridor 20 – Maroubra to Sydney CBD
  • Corridor 29 – Bondi Junction to Burwood
  • Corridor 30 – Bondi Junction to Hurstville
  • Metrobus M10 from Maroubra Junction to Leichhardt.

The bus lane will allow buses to move to the front of morning traffic queues.

Features

The project involves:

  • Narrowing the central median and removing about 20 trees (mainly Casuarinas) on the northbound approach to the Nine Ways roundabout to create space the bus lane. Note: A mature fig tree in the central median will be protected and new landscaping installed to retain the northbound avenue of trees effect.
  • Removing about 20 commuter parking spaces on the eastern side of Anzac Parade northbound between Sturt Street and the Nine Ways roundabout. Note: Ample alternative parking is available in the centre median south of the proposed works. The proposal would not affect existing parking spaces in the kerbside lane of Anzac Parade northbound and in the central median.
  • Locating the 200-metre long bus lane in the second lane of a four-lane section of Anzac Parade northbound to the Nine Ways roundabout at the Gardeners Road intersection.
  • Configuring the traffic lanes as:
    • Lane 1 kerbside - for motorist parking.
    • Lane 2 - for buses.
    • Lanes 3 and 4 - for general traffic.
