Harbour crossings to the airport

An efficient network of tunnels and motorways allows traffic flowing under Sydney Harbour to easily reach the city, the airport, and the inner city suburbs of Sydney. This network reduces congestion in the CBD and provides a fast, reliable airport link. It also enables road users to join other motorways on the Sydney Orbital Network.

The 2.3 kilometre Sydney Harbour Tunnel connects the Warringah Freeway on the northern side of Sydney Harbour to the Cahill Expressway and Eastern Distributor on the southern side of the Harbour. It includes a one kilometre section under the harbour.

The Eastern Distributor Motorway is a six kilometre motorway link to and from Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport and Port Botany. Airport traffic flowing from the north joins the Eastern Distributor at the southern end of the Cahill Expressway.

The Cross City Tunnel motorway connects to the Eastern Distributor and runs between the eastern side of Darling Harbour and Kings Cross, linking the Western Distributor to New South Head Road.
