The steps in the project development process of road projects are:
- Preliminary investigations.
- Development of project options.
- Selection of a preferred option (may be accompanied by a public display).
- Environmental assessment of the project being considered for approval (may be accompanied by a public display).
- Approval of the project.
Environmental management is an important aspect of Roads and Maritime Services decision-making and activities, and Roads and Maritime Services is required under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act to assess the environmental, social and economic impacts of all projects.
