The courtesy name is a new registration data field that may be used to record the name of a business or organisation, but not an individual's name. It is a breach of privacy legislation to record the name of an individual.
The registered operator of a vehicle can nominate a courtesy name of no more than 40 characters when establishing or transferring the registration of a light vehicle.
To add, change or delete a courtesy name, you can go to a motor registry or phone the RTA Contact Centre on 13 22 13. You must provide appropriate proof of identity.
The RTA has the discretion to refuse to record a courtesy name which may be considered offensive or in bad taste.
The courtesy name field is not available for registrations in more than one name established before 19 May 2008.
