Proof of registration entitlement

Proof of registration entitlement documents prove how a vehicle came into your possession or management. The registered operator of the vehicle may or may not be the owner.

You must provide these documents to:

  • Register a vehicle.
  • Transfer registration of a vehicle.

If you are registering the vehicle in the name of a person who is not listed in the Proof of Entitlement documents, you must provide the relevant entitlement document and a letter of authorisation detailing the name and address of the person to be recorded as the registered operator.

 

You must provide ONE of the Proof of Entitlement documents

Note:  All documents must be without alteration.

The contract must be fully executed and any 'cooling'off period has lapsed.

(The 'cooling off' period must be clearly identified on the contract of sale).

Proof of purchase:

  • Letter
  • Bill of sale
  • Receipt
  • Tax invoice

The document must contain:

  • The Seller's name, address and signature.
  • The Buyer's name, address and signature.
  • The Date the vehicle was sold.
  • The Selling price of the vehicle.
  • The Vehicle registration and VIN/Chassis numbers.

Note: Small trailer purchases from retail outlets only require seller's name, date of sale, sale price and VIN/Chassis number.

Financial agreement

Made under the Family Law Act 1975, sections: 90B, 90C or 90D.

Certified in accordance with section 90G of the Act.

Made within the meaning of section 44 of the Property (Relationships) Act 1984).

The Statutory declaration must state detail on the circumstances of how the vehicle was acquired.
