Re-establish expired or cancelled rego

Your vehicle is unregistered if the registration is not renewed by the expiry date.

Expired registration

  • You can only renew your registration up to three months after the expiry date.
  • When you register after the expiry date, your new registration starts from the date you make the payment, but the expiry will remain the same - you will not get a full year of registration.

For example, if your registration expires on 1 August, and you don't renew until 1 October, your next registration renewal will be due on 1 August the following year.

  • You can choose to cancel your current registration and then re-register your vehicle. This will allow you to purchase a full year of registration from the date of payment.
  • For more information, see expired registration

Cancelled Registration

  • Your registration will be cancelled if your registration is not renewed up to three months of the expiry date.
  • If your registration is cancelled by Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority), you must re-register your vehicle.
  • For more information, see cancelled registration
