Woomargama Bypass community information day

01-05-2008

Local businesses and residents are invited to attend a Woomargama Bypass information session, to be held locally next week.

An RTA spokesperson said the meeting would provide the community with findings from the additional field investigations conducted by the project team.

“The corridor options for the Hume Highway bypass at Woomargama will be available to the community on Tuesday 6 May at the Woomargama Community Hall,” the spokesperson said.

“Everyone is invited, and encouraged, to attend this ‘drop in’ community session to view the two possible corridor options being considered.

“Project consultants, PB, will be on hand to discuss the findings from the investigations conducted so far within the two corridors.

“These investigations include flora and fauna, cultural heritage, flooding, socio-economic, noise studies and concept design.

“PB will also discuss the opportunities and constraints of each corridor option.

“It is important that all relevant information is available at these meetings, so participants have access to the whole picture.

People can register their interest by phone on 1800 755 767 (toll free) or via email at woomargama_bypass@pb.com.au, however registration is not compulsory.

“The RTA and PB are currently in the process of a formal evaluation of all three corridors.

“The final decision on the preferred corridor will be announced by the Australian and NSW Governments later this year.

“Concept design and detailed environmental assessment of the preferred route will then follow,” the spokesperson said.

The Woomargama bypass will improve road safety and transport efficiency by delivering consistent travel conditions along a high standard dual carriageway highway.

The Australian Government is committed to constructing the Woomargama bypass by 2012.
