The RTA advises the southbound lanes are now safe to carry vehicles.
In the last five days 364 trucks have carried 4,732 tonnes of crushed sandstone into the site, used to shore up the retaining wall along Botany Rd.
Engineers on site have now confirmed the southbound lane is safe to be opened back up to vehicles.
The RTA wants the whole road fixed and re-opened as soon as possible, but safety is and always has been the first priority. Geotechnical assessments of the damage to the northbound side of the road are continuing and involve examining the stability of the road and the ground beneath it.
The whole road will only be able to be re-opened subject to those ongoing assessments of the damage and to weather conditions.
Botany Road, from McEvoy Street to Bourke Street, has been closed to traffic since March 6, 2008, due to an unstable retaining wall within the adjacent construction site. The retaining wall is part of a construction site on private property and not under NSW Government control.
A range of stakeholders, including the RTA, Sydney Water, Work Cover, the Department of Commerce, NSW Police and Sydney City Council are working together to reopen the road as quickly as possible.
