Some RTA transactions for affected residents will also be processed free of charge.
Funding is available to councils to repair damage to the road network in the declared disaster zones.
This will assist local government agencies in restoring important community road infrastructure damaged as a result of the flooding.
The State Government will provide the full cost of immediate emergency repair works for:
RTA controlled State Roads
Local government controlled Regional Roads
Local government controlled Local Roads
In the long-term, the State Government will also fund the cost of restoring damaged roads to their original condition:
100 percent in the case of RTA controlled State Roads
100 percent in the case of local government controlled Regional Roads
At least 75 percent in the case of local government controlled Local Roads
The RTA is also completing inspections of all RTA controlled State Roads in the storm affected areas to make sure they are safe for travel.
Additionally, people who have had their vehicles damaged or destroyed in the severe weather of the past few days will have registration cancellation and transfer fees waived.
Fees will also be waived for residents who have lost licences and registration papers as a result of the storms and floods.
Residents in the worst affected areas have suffered significant property damage, and in many cases their vehicles have been damaged or destroyed.
The following RTA transactions will be processed free of charge:
Replacement driver licence; (usually $20)
Replacement NSW Photo card; (usually $20)
Replacement MPS card; (usually $11 or $5 for pensioners)
Re-issue or re-make of number plates; ( fees vary) and
Replacement of Certificate of Registration and/or label; (usually $18)
Special proof of identity arrangements have been put in place for people who require replacement driver licences, NSW Photo Cards or Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) Cards.
Since the flood disaster the RTA has been assisting the SES and NSW Police by monitoring the flooding and closing roads where necessary.
RTA crews have been patrolling flood affected areas (particularly the Pacific Highway and New England Highway), making closures where required and manning barriers to ensure motorists travel safely.
People planning to drive near the flood affected areas are advised to check the RTA website Northern Region traffic reports for the latest information before leaving.
