The RTA is constantly analysing all parts of the Sydney road network to identify locations with higher rates of casualty crashes.
The RTA focuses most of its road safety engineering resources on protecting people by upgrading locations where casualties and fatalities occur.
This year $933 million has been allocated to maintenance of the State’s roads and more than $140 million to road safety programs and campaigns.
Hundreds of millions more are spent every year on road upgrades which also improve road safety.
Most of the crashes recorded by NRMA Insurance were low severity crashes in heavy traffic conditions. Many would not have involved anyone being injured or Police being called.
Experts from the NSW Centre for Road Safety will analyse the data from the major locations identified by the NRMA to see if it can offer any clues about reducing the incidence of crashes at the locations.
