How to set up a myRTA.com online account

Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) aims to provide convenient and equitable access to its services to all members of the community while balancing the strict need for privacy and security.

To ensure the security of customer information, we require customers to establish an online account to access certain online transactions. Currently these transactions are Demerit point enquiries, Registration transfer and Driving Records.

Customers can enrol for an online account at myRTA.com, by phoning 13 22 13, or in person at a motor registry.

Setting up an online account at myRTA.com

To fully enrol online, customers must first validate themselves using their driver licensing details. As an additional measure of security, using a challenge-response approach, the customer must verify other information Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) holds that does not appear on the driver licence. Currently, information relating to a vehicle registered to the customer is used for verification. Once this information has been verified the customer can establish a secret question and password to finalise their online account.

Set up an online account now

Please note: Customers must have a driver licence and a vehicle registered in their name to complete the setup of an account, online at myRTA.com. Customers who don't have a vehicle registered in their name can validate themselves using their driver licence information and will then be prompted to phone 13 22 13 and answer a series of questions relating to other information Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) holds about them to complete the process.

Setting up an online account by phone

To enrol for an online account via the telephone a customer must hold a NSW Driver Licence and answer a series of questions relating to information Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) holds about the customer. Once this information is verified customers will receive an email with a system generated password. Upon accessing myRTA those customers will be requested to nominate a new password and secret question to finalise their online account.

Setting up an online account at a motor registry

To enrol for an online account at a motor registry a customer must provide approved Proof of Identity (POI) documents and be a holder of a current NSW Driver Licence. Once POI has been verified customers will receive an email with a system generated password. Upon accessing myRTA customers will be requested to nominate a new password and secret question to finalise their online account.

Please note: Customers who supply a valid email address while completing a transaction requiring POI, such as Driver Licence renewal, will also receive an email from Roads and Maritime Services inviting them to establish an online account.
