What is the Motorcycle Operators Skills Test?

The Motorcycle Operator Skill Test (M.O.S.T) is designed to measure a rider's ability to handle a motorcycle, including starting, accelerating, turning and braking. The M.O.S.T is undertaken at the end of the pre-provisional rider training course.

Duration of training courses

Learner courses

The pre-learner course is held over two days (3.5 hours duration each day). The RTA provides motorcycles, helmets and gloves.

Generally, morning and afternoon courses are available. Some testing centres offer evening courses. Detailed information about courses and commencement times will be provided when making a booking.

Provisional courses

Provisional courses are of 7 hours duration. Detailed information about the courses and commencement times will be provided when making a booking. Evening courses are not available.

How long do I have to hold a learner rider's licence before I can do the provisional course & test?
