Part 2 (Hazard Perception)

The aim of the Driver Qualification Test (DQT) is to confirm that P2 drivers have sufficient hazard perception skills to "graduate" to the less restricted, full NSW driver licence.

Part 2 of the DQT is similar to the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) that you passed to graduate to a P2 licence. However, it is harder and more complex than the HPT. For example, the hazard perception questions are longer and may require multiple responses.

Part 2 is based on driving situations that lead to the 5 most common crash types for new full licence holders in NSW.

The best way to successfully prepare for Part 2 is to study the Driver Qualification Handbook (Part 3, "Hazard Perception - Revision and Further Development"), understand the main hazard perception concepts and apply them to your driving.

You may also find it beneficial to visit the 'Build your skills' section of this website. It contains interactive exercises on revising and improving hazard perception skills. For a more detailed and interactive explanation of Part 2 questions, it is also recommended you visit "How to respond to Part 2 questions".
