What is the main aim of the test? To test your knowledge of road rules and road safety in order to obtain a driver's licence.

What is the structure of the test?

Both the actual and Online demo test consist of:

15 general driver knowledge questions

20 road safety essentials questions

10 traffic signs questions.

Which questions will I be asked to answer? The computer will randomly select 45 questions for you from a question bank of several hundred.
How do I pass the test?

To pass the test, you must get at least:

12 correct answers out of the 15 general driver knowledge questions; and

29 correct answers out of the 30 combined road safety essentials and traffic signs questions.

Can the test be automatically terminated? Yes. The test will automatically be terminated when you have answered 4 general driver knowledge questions incorrectly OR 2 questions in the combined road safety essentials and traffic signs questions.

No. You will be able to complete all 45 questions. However, you may exit the test at any time.

On completion of the test, the result screen will tell you if you would have passed or failed the actual test at the motor registry.

Is there a time limit to complete the test? No
In what order do the three answer options appear? Answer options appear in random order.
How do I select the answer option of my choice? To select the answer, you touch the computer screen on the selected answer option. To select the answer, you use your mouse to point and click on the selected answer option.
How are the test results accessed? When you have completed the test or if your test is terminated, you will be asked to call a registry supervisor who will access the results screen. When you have completed the Online test, the results screen will automatically appear. It will tell you if you would have passed or failed the actual test at the motor registry.
How can I best prepare for the test?

Study carefully the appropriate road rules handbook/s available from motor registries or Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) website.

Study the Driver Knowledge Test questions for your appropriate class of licence (published on Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) website)

Use the practice Driver Knowledge Test as many times as required until you are ready to undertake the test at the motor registry.

Are there different test for different licence classes? Yes. There are different tests for different licence classes, e.g Car, Motorcycle, Light Rigid Vehicle.
What languages is the test available in? The test is available in English, Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Greek, Korean, Serbian, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese.
Can I take the test in a language other than those listed above. Yes. If you wish to take the test in another language, prior arrangements should be made with Roads and Maritime Services Call Centre or your local Motor Registry Manager. No. The Online test is available only in English and 9 community languages.
Is there an audio function in the test? Yes. You can choose to listen to the questions and answer options through a set of headphones. An audio function is available in English and the 9 community languages listed above. An audio function is not available Online.
Do I have to pay a fee to undertake the test? Yes. A test fee is payable each time you attempt the test. No. The practice test is free of charge.
