How will I know I’m eligible for the discount?
If you are eligible, the discount will be automatically applied when you renew your licence.
See ‘Fair go for safe drivers’ scheme for the eligibility criteria.

You can request a copy of your driving record (search of records fee applies) or check your demerit points for free any time online at myRTA.com. Alternatively you can call the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) Contact Centre or attend one of our motor registries to request this information.

What is the discounted fee?
The discounted fee is 50% of the regular renewal fee. See Licensing fees for a list of the current fees.

My licence expires after 1 July 2012 – can I still get the discount if I renew early?
As long as you meet the eligibility criteria on the day you renew your licence, you will receive the discount.

I am currently appealing an offence and need to renew my licence. Will I get the discount?
If you have an offence under appeal at the time of renewal, you are not eligible for the discount.

If however your appeal is successful, you may be eligible for a refund of 50% of the renewal fee you paid. Call the RMS Contact Centre or attend a motor registry.

Does the discount only apply to the one-year licence renewal option?
No. As long as you’re eligible, you will receive the discount whether you renew for one, three or five years.

I currently receive a pensioner concession. Will I get the discount as well?
Eligible pensioners, including war widows and widowers, are entitled to free licence renewals, therefore the discount does not apply. See Pensioner concessions for more information.
