Calm, authoritative and experienced - that’s the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority’s Graham Price.
With these qualities, it was no surprise Graham was a perfect fit to serve as the Last Chance Learners' driving tester.
Graham has been working at the RTA as a driving tester for the past five and a half years. He’s so experienced, he’s recently been promoted to train and test the testers!
Graham became a driver tester after spending 15 years on NSW roads driving heavy vehicles.
Graham was the perfect driving tester for Last Chance Learners, because, like the authority he works for, he places a high priority on putting better drivers on the road.
According to Graham, to be a good driving tester you need extensive driving skills, good knowledge of the Australian road rules, and the ability to stay calm in difficult situations.
Everyday, Graham sits alongside learner’s sitting their test – sometimes this brings with it the odd tense moment. But Graham says it’s worth it. “I get great job satisfaction out of seeing a learner’s delight when I tell them they have passed the test.”
And the advice Graham offers learners sitting the driving test: “You’re more likely to pass if you can relax, are competent, and drive defensively.” Learners should try and remember that hundreds of people take this test each day.
Outside of his day job, Graham likes riding is Harley and watching Rugby League. He is married with two children who are 22 and 21 years old.
