Tow Truck Licensing - Drivers

Applying for a tow truck drivers certificate

The criteria for a tow truck driver's licence are the requirements that applicants must meet before a tow truck licence can be issued by Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority). More information on this can be found on the application form and in the driver's information package.

To apply an applicant must:

  • hold a NSW driver licence (fully unrestricted)
  • have read and understood the criteria, conditions and procedures for authorisation as outlined in the information package
  • have completed and signed the application form and declaration, and attached all of the documents requested
  • have satisfied Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) that they:
    • are of good repute and in all other respects a fit and proper person to be the driver of a tow truck, and
    • have sufficient responsibility to drive a tow truck in accordance with law and custom

The completed application, including all documentation and payment of the fee, must be delivered or posted to Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority).
