The Tow Truck Authority of NSW (TTA) was established in 1998 as the government agency responsible for the licensing and regulation of tow trucks in the New South Wales.
On 31 March 2006 the responsibility for the administration of the Tow Truck Industry Act 1998 and for the functions of the TTA was transferred from the Minister for Transport to the Minister for Roads.
Under the amended Tow Truck Industry Act 1998 and Tow Truck Industry Regulation 2008, all tow truck industry regulatory functions will be carried out by the Roads and Traffic Authority. The newly established tow Truck Licensing and Compliance Branch of the RTA is responsible for all tow truck industry licensing and regulation.
