The Intelligent Access Program (IAP) maps provide details on the roads approved for:
- HML Short Combination
- HML B-Double
- HML Road Trains
- GML and HML B-Triples
- GML and HML AB-Triples
- High Risk Mobile Cranes

B-Double or Road Train restrictions
Transport operators should remember that all B-Double or Road Train restrictions apply to HML approved roads. Consideration should be given to B-Double or Road Train access arrangements and/or restrictions when considering HML access for these combinations.

Route assessment
Transport operators can request for assessment of roads that are not currently approved for higher productivity vehicle access by completing the HPV access request form and emailing it to iap@rms.nsw.gov.au.
Where access is sought on local and regional roads that are not currently approved, written approval will be required from the relevant Local Government Authority.
Approval to operate on private roads must be obtained from the relevant private road owner(s).
Vehicles must not operate on requested roads until advised by Roads and Maritime Services of the outcome of the assessment or until the approved roads appear on the relevant IAP maps.
Selecting the IAP maps
The IAP maps are separated into three vehicle groups – HML, Triples and Mobile Cranes. Select the IAP maps based on the appropriate vehicle group.
For HML maps, select the map index of the region of interest. For mobile crane maps, select the map index of the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Level of interest.
Viewing the HML or Triples IAP maps
Each of the HML or Triples maps have multiple viewing layers that can be turned on and off by clicking on the "eye” icon. This feature can be used to assist in the viewing of specific information contained within the maps. When first opened, all available information is displayed. Layers of information can be selected by:
- clicking on the 'Layers' tab on the left-hand side of the page; and
- double clicking individual layers of information that appear in the grey drop-down list on the left (there will be an automatic change to the display of information on the map)
Downloading of IAP maps
A zip file containing all the maps for a vehicle group is available for download. Downloaded maps can be viewed offline. The files below can be downloaded by:
- clicking on the applicable map download; and
- save the file on your PC
Understanding the maps
Each IAP map contains a legend at the side of the map. Please note that restricted locations and end points may apply to specific IAP routes. Where this occurs, a reference code will be displayed on the map. A list of reference code is available for each group of IAP maps.
Navigation from one map to another is available by clicking on the map index available on the bottom left of the map in view.
Accuracy and currency
The IAP maps are an accurate depiction of the roads that have been approved and the known network restrictions for the operation of IAP vehicles at the time of generation.
Roads and Maritime Services updates the IAP maps on a quarterly basis.
