Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority)’s IAP Route Confirmation Service is available for transport operators to obtain detailed information on the availability of higher productivity vehicle access on roads throughout New South Wales.
To confirm whether access is available on specific roads of interest operators must complete the ‘IAP route confirmation form’, also available at the bottom of this page.
Detailed network maps are provided by Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) when transport operators become fully enrolled in the IAP.
Higher Mass Limits (HML)
Vehicles that become fully enrolled in the IAP - by engaging a certified IAP Service Provider and having IAP equipment installed - will benefit from a range of enhanced benefits, including:
Automatic access to all HML roads in New South Wales approved for your vehicle combination
Vehicles fully enrolled in the IAP will gain automatic access to all HML roads in New South Wales that have been approved for that vehicle combination.
A map of key state roads that have been approved for HML access in NSW is available at the ‘HML State-road network overview’.
14,078 km of state roads (92 percent of the total) within the expanded HML access zone is now approved for HML.
Over 2,200 km of regional and local roads which connect to the state road network have also been approved for HML.
Operators can also utilise the IAP route confirmation service to obtain information on specific state, regional and local roads available for HML access (see below).
Automatic access to expanded HML access zone
Vehicles fully enrolled in the IAP can obtain HML access to roads within an expanded geographic area of New South Wales.
The expanded HML access zone now covers 89 percent of the geographic landmass of New South Wales (depicted in the HML State-road network overview below).
Recognised as HML approved vehicle at Automated Heavy Vehicle Checking Stations
Vehicles fully enrolled in the IAP will be recognised as an HML approved vehicle when travelling through the ‘screening lane’ at Heavy Vehicle Checking Stations, and given an express journey back to the highway – without being directed to stop for inspection – if all legal operating requirements are satisfied.

A complete set of HML network maps, with state, regional and local roads, will be made available to transport operators with vehicles fully enrolled in the IAP.
IAP route confirmation service
Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) is pleased to offer an IAP route confirmation service to all transport operators considering becoming fully enrolled in the IAP.
This service will provide operators with the ability to obtain formal confirmation of the availability of higher productivity vehicle access on specific roads or routes of interest to their business when making a decision to engage an IAP Service Provider.
Transport operators can also initiate assessments of roads that have not yet been evaluated for higher productivity vehicle access. Details of approved roads are given to operators on full enrolment to IAP
To use this service, transport operators should complete the ‘IAP route confirmation’ spreadsheet, and email it to Intelligent_Access_Program@rta.nsw.gov.au.
Road Train Modernisation Program
B-Triple and AB-Triple combinations that become fully enrolled in the IAP will also benefit from:
- automatic access to all approved B-Triple or AB-Triple roads in New South Wales;
- the provision of a B-Triple/AB-Triple network map.
