In addition to the mandatory release of certain government information, RMS is authorised under section 7(1) of the GIPA Act to proactively make any government information held by the agency publicly available unless there is an overriding public interest against public disclosure of the information.
RMS proactively releases a lot of information in various different forms.
In December 2011, RMS formed a committee (the Proactive Release and Open Access Committee – PROAC) whose primary function is to develop ideas for proactive release and to consider issues of public interest against disclosure of its open access information. PROAC has representatives from across RMS.
Through PROAC RMS regularly reviews its program for the proactive release of government information.
As part of its current program for authorised proactive release of information, RMS has decided to release the following categories of information, some of which is now available below:
- Roads and Maritime Services Performance Information
- Environmental Impact Assessment Documents
- Statistics on Vehicle Inspections
- School Zone Alert System

- Safe-T Cam
- Safe-T-Cam offences - updated quarterly
- Heavy vehicle checking stations
- Fatal crash statistics - updated daily (preliminary)
- Crash statistics - monthly bulletin (preliminary)
- Traffic volume data
- Number of provisional licences cancelled and suspended
- Total licences cancelled and suspended
- Number of people who passed the Driver Knowledge Test
- Number of licence holders with 10 or more demerit points
- Number of people issued with penalty notices (State Debt Recovery Office website)
- Customer satisfaction survey results
- Motor registry waiting times
- Driving test waiting times
