This is it: the final frontier.
So you’ve had your P2 licence for at least 24 months and you’re thinking about going for your full licence. To get it, you need to pass the Driver Qualification Test (DQT). Once you’ve done that, you’ll never have to slap a P plate on your car again. How good does that sound?

What is the DQT?
The DQT is a touch-screen test that combines a knowledge test – questions about road rules and safe driving – and a more advanced version of the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) that you completed to get your P2 licence.
Like the HPT, the DQT is based on research about lowering the crash risk for young drivers. You should expect the DQT to be more challenging than all the tests you’ve faced previously, as it has been specially designed and developed to help you become a safer driver.
Preparing for the test
To prepare for the test you'll need to get a copy of the Driver Qualification Handbook, which you can buy from motor registries or download free here. You’ll need to study the handbook carefully because you’ll be tested on every section of the book.
At the beginning of the knowledge section and the hazard perception section ,you’ll be given some practice questions so you can get used to the technology. To find out more about the DQT and to practice building your skills, click here.
You can book your test either online at myRTA.com, by calling 13 22 13 or in person at any motor registry.
When you go for your test – which you can do at any motor registry – you’ll need a copy of your licence, proof of identity and a means to pay for your full licence.
