Slow down pledge

Take the Slow Down Pledge

Driving is empowering because it gives you freedom to be with friends, see new places and do things in your own time. But speeding and reckless driving can put you in situations that take that freedom away. Even worse, every time you speed, you are at risk of causing harm to yourself, your mates and others.

It is because of these risks that Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) is rolling out a series of Slow Down Road Shows throughout the year to promote road safety and to teach the community about the importance of slowing down on the roads. The dates for these events will be announced on Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) website as they happen.

The Slow Down Road Shows feature a graphic display of two crashed cars, one at 60km/h and 100km/h, as well as an audio visual display, activities and speakers. The display dramatically illustrates the dangers drivers face when they speed.

A series of high profile sportspeople have taken the Slow Down Pledge, including Brett Lee, Nathan Bracken and Hazem el Masri, and they encourage you to do the same.

To take the Pledge all you need to do is visit www.slowdownpledge.com.au and click the ‘Take the Pledge’ button. You can also watch a video of Hazem talking about the reasons why he personally chose to take the Slow Down Pledge.
