Check twice for bikes

As the temperature drops and winter sets in, it can be tough to leave the house and the heater. Jumping into a cold car isn't fun but spare a thought for the people who ride motorbikes - they're out there in the elements with no doors and roof to protect them from the cold weather. There's only a layer of leather between them and the wind or rain - and other vehicles on the road with them.

Motorbike riders can be hard to spot in traffic and can be in a car driver's blind spot. For every kilometre travelled, motorbike riders are about 20 times more likely to be killed than car drivers. It's a pretty scary statistic. And this is the reason why it is really important to check for bikes when you're on the road - pulling in and out of traffic, changing lanes and even opening your car door when parked.

As the days get shorter and the weather more wintry, it's important to take extra care to check twice for bikes.
