Roads and Maritime Services' (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) Environmental Noise Management Manual details Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority)'s standard for managing noise and vibration impacts from road traffic, road construction and maintenance. The manual provides Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority)'s management response to the NSW Government's Environmental Criteria for Road Traffic Noise (see Related links) and other approved noise and vibration guidelines prepared by the Department of Environment and Conservation. In addition the manual complements Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority)'s Urban and Regional Design Practice Notes, in Beyond the Pavement (see Related links) and Noise Wall Design Guidelines.
Contained within the manual are principles, practice notes and model consultant briefs providing direction and guidance on managing Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority)'s noise impacts and influencing landuse planning decisions. The manual has been designed for implementation by Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) staff, contractors and specialist consultants and is also available to local councils and the general public to encourage partnerships in resolving noise and vibration issues. Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) has begun to review the manual as part of its commitment to continual improvement as such encourages feedback on the contents of the manual and its application.
