Land management

Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) is a major landowner and regularly buys and sells property. Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) has processes in place for the environmental management of its land and properties.

These processes include the environmental assessment of land to be purchased, identification of any contamination and, where necessary, remediation of the contaminated area. Remediation ensures the land is safe and that environmental requirements for future uses of the land are met.

Roads and Maritime Services (replacing Roads and Traffic Authority) has implemented a program to assess and manage environmental issues on all of its operational sites. These sites include road maintenance depots and dry docks for the maintenance of vehicular ferries. This program was established in 1999 and improvement works are continuing.
