Roads and Maritime Services Climate Change Plan
To address the challenge of Climate Change, Roads and Maritime Services has developed a Climate Change Plan. The Roads and Maritime Services Climate Change Plan includes actions to:
- Reduce Road and Maritime Services’ carbon footprint
- Help reduce the carbon footprint of NSW road transport
- Adapt the Road and Maritime Services road transport system to the impacts of climate change
- Manage Road and Maritime Services’ transition to a low carbon economy
Specific actions from this plan continue to be implemented across Roads and Maritime Services.
Roads and Maritime Services Greenhouse and Energy Reporting
Roads and Maritime Services reports annually to the Office of Environment and Heritage on its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and direct energy consumption in accordance with the NSW Government Sustainability Policy. The Roads and Maritime Services Energy and Greenhouse Summary Report includes information on greenhouse gas emissions from energy usage associated with the operation of Roads and Maritime Services’ properties, street lighting, traffic signals, and vehicles.
This annual reporting does not include GHG emissions outside of Road and Maritime Services’ operational control such as GHG emissions associated with contractors and upstream or downstream emissions such as embodied emissions from purchased materials. This annual reporting also does not include GHG emissions associated with general NSW road or boat transport.
GHG emissions from on-road transport
Roads and Maritime Services tracks GHG emissions from general NSW road transport as part of its Vehicle Emissions Measure which is reported upon annually.
