What is the RTA's EMS?

The RTA’s Environmental Management System (EMS) is a system of processes, documents, guidelines and actions which provide a foundation for effective management of the environmental impacts of the RTA’s work. The EMS operates across distinct areas of the RTA, which together, form a single system to ensure staff have the skills and knowledge to effectively plan and manage environmental issues.

Key Drivers

The key drivers of RTA's EMS include:

  • The RTA Environmental Policy
  • RTA Corporate Plan - The Journey Ahead (2003-2008)
  • Requirements of the International Standard ISO 14001
  • Legislation

EMS Working Party

A number of senior environment staff participate in a monthly EMS Working Party meeting to ensure strategic environmental issues are raised and actioned appropriately. The members are a conduit of information between the various functional areas.

EMS Review 2003

An extensive review was undertaken of the EMS to determine gaps and areas for improvement. A number of recommendations were made for improving the EMS and these are to be implemented during 2003-06. One recommendation, to increase communication of the EMS to staff, resulted in the production of an EMS brochure. Click on the related link to view a copy.
