Cleaner air
Reducing the impact of road transport on air quality
Roads and Maritime Services is committed to improving air quality by effectively managing the NSW roads and traffic system. We are working on a range of cleaner air initiatives to improve vehicle and fuel standards, reduce vehicle emissions and to promote greener transport alternatives. Even though air quality has improved over the last 20 years we will continue to work towards reducing vehicle emissions and supporting initiatives that help keep our air clean.
NSW Action for air
Roads and Maritime Services has a major role in implementing Action for Air - the NSW Government's 25-year air quality management plan for the Greater Metropolitan Region covering Sydney, the Lower Hunter and the Illawarra. Action for Air requires a broadly based public forum to be convened every three years, to encourage public input on air quality trends and strategies. The latest Action for Air update was published in 2009.
