The RTA in partnership with the Rail Infrastructure Corporation has a program for upgrading rail level crossings in NSW.
There are some 3,804 rail level crossings in NSW with almost half of these on public roads.
The facilities provided at level crossings are assessed against about 70 risk factors including vehicle speed, train speed and visibility.
Whilst the RTA and its partners are committed to upgrading the safety of rail level crossings, drivers, riders and pedestrians are encouraged to be vigilant, aware and obey the road rules at rail level crossings.
