Bus Route Subsidy

Summary

The Bus Route Subsidy, (also know as the Public Vehicle Weight Tax or the Bus Tax), is provided to assist Councils to maintain public roads used by buses.
It is regulated under Section 106 of the Transport Administration Act 1988

Section 108 of the Transport Administration Act 1988 applies the grants to the Metropolitan, Newcastle and Wollongong Transport Districts.  These Districts are defined under Section 38 of the Transport Administration (General) Regulation 2005 and shown on the attached map.  No grants are made for bus services that operate outside the three Transport Districts.

The maintenance of State Roads is excluded from the Subsidy.
