Road Safety
Summary
The NSW Government’s State Plan has set the RTA a target to reduce the loss of life on our roads and make our roads safer.
The NSW Centre for Road Safety, which became operational from 1 January 2008, will help deliver that commitment. Road environment safety is the term used to describe safety that relates specifically to road design, traffic management, the roadway and its adjoining surroundings and environmental conditions. The RTA and local government can reduce crashes and casualties by providing a safer road environment through improvements in the design, construction and development of the road network, and in the management of the traffic it carries. Follow the Road environment safety link for RTA’s publications for road safety practitioners and others, including the technical directions on Accident Reduction Guide. There are other road safety technical directions which describe how road environment safety issues are addressed and implemented. Follow the links below for more details on: Related links:

- The RTA maintains statistical reports about traffic crashes in NSW. These documents are prepared for information purposes, including research by road safety practitioners, and can be downloaded here Crash Statistics. In addition to this, RTA provides all councils with crash statistics by CD twice annually.
- The RTA Council Forms system allows NSW Local Government Councils online access to various RTA funding application forms and to submit them to the relevant RTA areas electronically.
