Engineering Policy Documents - Terms of Use and Disclaimer

RTA Engineering Policy Documents are policy documents within the meaning of the Freedom of Information Act 1989 (NSW)("FOI Act") and these documents are accordingly made available to you pursuant to Section 15(1) of the FOI Act.

Consistent with the FOI Act, the purposes for which these documents have been made available to you are:

  • to satisfy the RTA's obligation under Section 15(1) of the FOI Act to make its policy documents available for inspection and purchase by members of the public; and
  • to ensure that you, as a member of the public who may be affected by the operation of this document, have access to the document.

The Engineering Policy Documents were developed by the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW (the RTA) to provide a broad based set of RTA policies and guidelines on technical issues related to its infrastructure assets.

The RTA carries out planning and design of new infrastructure as well as rehabilitation, maintenance and/or other works for existing infrastructure under the supervision of trained and experienced professional engineers.

By complying with the Engineering Policy Documents, any planning and design for new infrastructure as well as rehabilitation, maintenance, inspection or other works carried out internally or by others for the RTA will have consistency in terms of quality, aesthetics or efficient use of resources as required by the RTA. The RTA does not use the Engineering Policy Documents for any other purposes and does not consider them suitable for use for any other purpose.

This web site is not intended to contain the complete set of RTA policy documents that may apply to a specific project.

If you use these documents for any purpose which is not consistent with the above (including, without limitation, for carrying out any investigations, design, construction, engineering, maintenance, inspections or other work), you do so at your own risk.

The RTA makes no representations or warranty that the Engineering Policy Documents have been prepared with reasonable care and does not assume a duty of care to you. The RTA has no responsibility to inform you of any matter coming to the RTA's notice which may affect the quality of the Engineering Policy Documents in any way. You may print a copy of the Engineering Policy Documents for your own purposes, but you must not copy, reproduce or modify the Engineering Policy Documents.

No advisory or support services will be provided by the RTA.

The information provided on this website is made available electronically for your convenience. The RTA does not warrant or represent that this website is free from any computer virus, defect or contamination. All information contained on this website is copyright material, vested in or licensed to the RTA, and is not to be copied, supplied, modified, adapted, displayed, disclosed, installed or supplied to any third party. You also agree that you will not de-compile, disassemble or reverse engineer the information, for any reason, without the RTA's prior express written consent in each instance.

Electronic copies of Engineering Policy Documents are not to be supplied in MS Word or other formats other than Portable Document Format (PDF) outside the RTA unless provided, by the appropriate RTA Project Manager, to professional services contractors or Councils carrying out work for RTA funded projects.

Electronic copies of Engineering Policy Documents may be provided to other State Road or NSW Government Authorities for use on Government funded projects only.
