The RTA is committed to achieving good urban design outcomes from all infrastructure projects for which it is responsible. This means
- Road projects and the networks of which they are a part must fit sensitively with the built, natural and community environments through which they pass, in both urban and rural locations.
- Road planning and design must contribute to the accessibility and connectivity of communities and a general permeability of movement through areas by all modes of movement, including walking and cycling.
- The design and management of roads must contribute to the overall quality of the public domain for the community, including road users.
The RTA’s Urban Design Section, located within the Major Infrastructure Directorate, is responsible for urban design outcomes across the Authority and works closely with RTA Development Managers, Project Managers and their teams.
