As part of the Windsor Road upgrade, the RTA has widened the former two-lane road to a four-lane divided road between Acres Road and Old Windsor Road at Kellyville. The upgrading of this 2.6km section of Windsor Road was fully funded by the NSW State Government. Construction on this project commenced in June 2005 and was completed five months ahead of schedule in July 2006.
Benefits of the project
The project has major benefits for the local community as well as for through traffic.
Travel times and safety along the road have been greatly improved and congestion reduced including improved access for local road users, pedestrians and cyclists.
Public transport has been enhanced by the construction of bus bays and the provision of bus priority at signalised intersections.
Key features of the upgrade
New bridges over Smalls (Strangers) and Caddies creeks.
Four traffic lanes with sealed shoulders and a central median.
Traffic signals with pedestrian crossings at Samantha Riley Drive.
New signalised intersection at Acres Road.
Access to properties fronting Windsor Road will be left-in/left-out.
There will be bus bays along the route for the protection of commuters, as well as to ensure the free flow of traffic.
Bus priority lights will be provided at traffic signals.
Depressed median strip opposite the fire station to cater for emergency vehicle access/exit.
Shared pedestrian and cyclist path along the southern side of Windsor Road.
Landscaping and planting along the roadside to blend the finished work into the surrounding areas.
