Victoria Road lane widths

How many lanes will there be on Victoria Road between the Gladesville Bridge and the Crescent in Rozelle?

Victoria Road currently has six lanes through Drummoyne and Rozelle (three lanes in each direction) and five general traffic lanes over Iron Cove Bridge.

Following the completion of the upgrade there would be six lanes through Drummoyne, up to seven lanes through Rozelle and seven lanes over Iron Cove Bridge.

The seven lanes on the bridge complement the tidal flow in Drummoyne and changed traffic arrangements in Rozelle and allow the provision of a dedicated 3.5km citybound bus lane and three general traffic lanes through Drummoyne and Rozelle during the AM peak.

At the intersection of Victoria Road and Darling Street in Rozelle there would be an eighth lane to enable westbound traffic to turn right from Victoria Road into Darling Street.

Is Victoria Road wide enough to accommodate eight lanes at the intersection with Darling Street?

Victoria Road has a total width of 24.5 metres at this intersection. By making better use of this existing space, the RTA would be able to create eight lanes, each with a minimum width of 2.8 metres. To accommodate buses the citybound kerbside lane would be 3.2 metres wide and the westbound kerbside lane would be 3.3 metres wide.

Will the lane widths at this intersection be safe for all traffic?

Traffic lanes on major roads throughout Sydney vary between 2.7 and 3.3 metres wide. On roads such as Parramatta Road, Military Road and other sections of Victoria Road, lane widths of 2.8 and 2.9 metres are common. All traffic lanes on Victoria Road will be at least 2.8 metres wide, that will enable the safe movement of traffic through the area.
