Morning peak tidal flow

Proposed works

Increase the capacity of the intersection by providing a morning peak tidal flow scheme between Ourimbah Road and Parriwi Road.

Benefits

The proposal will increase capacity for city bound through traffic on Spit Road by providing a dedicated right turn bay on Spit Road for traffic turning right into Ourimbah Road during the morning peak with a tidal flow scheme that will eliminate the impediment to traffic flow. Preliminary technical analysis has been undertaken using an intersection traffic model. With implementation of the proposal the analysis indicates that intersection delays will be reduced by approximately 30%.

The tidal flow scheme would extend from Ourimbah Road to Awaba Road in the first stage with a decision to extend the scheme to Parriwi Road made following analysis of this stage in delivering the required traffic flow improvements.

Progress

These works are scheduled to approximately start in mid 2009 and be completed by mid 2011.

The RTA is currently preparing detailed designs for the section between Ourimbah Road and Awaba Street.
