Traffic flow improvement initiatives

Background

The Spit - Military road corridor is part of the main arterial route between the northern beaches residential areas of Sydney and the Sydney CBD.

In May 2007 the NSW Government formed a working group to investigate initiatives to improve traffic flow in the Spit/Military road corridor, between the intersections of Sydney Road/Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation and Military Road/Warringah Freeway.

The working group includes representatives from the Roads and Traffic Authority, Ministry of Transport, State Transit Authority and the Office of the Co-ordinator General.

On 7 August 2008 the Minister for Roads announced a $48 million upgrade of Spit and Military roads.

The Spit - Military road improvement initiatives are intended to benefit all road users along the corridor, including bus commuters.  The initiatives are primarily targeted towards improving commuter peak travel times, however, buses will also benefit during the off-peak periods.
