Spit Bridge widening

On Wednesday 2 May 2007 the NSW Minister for Roads announced that the proposed widening of The Spit Bridge is no longer a viable option and the proposal has been abandoned.

The RTA has conducted a rigorous tendering process and following this process it became clear that to widen the bridge would cost significantly more than the original estimate due to the complex technical and engineering issues associated with widening an opening bridge.

The revised cost of the project would outweigh the benefits.

The Minister announced that a working group will be established comprising the RTA, State Transit, Ministry of Transport and the Premier's Infrastructure Implementation Group to investigate transport initiatives to improve traffic flows and bus priority in the Spit Road and Military Road corridor.
