Hills M2 Motorway

The Hills M2 Motorway extends 21 kilometres from the intersection of Epping Road and Pittwater Road, North Ryde to Old Windsor Road, Baulkham Hills.

The M2 Motorway provides a fast and efficient link for the growing population in Sydney's north west and now forms part of the Sydney Orbital network.

The motorway was funded and built by the private sector which will operate, maintain and repair the motorway until 2042, when it will revert to the ownership of the NSW government.

The M2 opened on 26 May 1997 and consists of a four-lane expressway plus a two-lane busway (between the east-bound and west-bound carriageways) from Beecroft Road to Old Windsor Road, breakdown lanes and cyclist lanes.

A new third lane on the westbound carriageway has been opened between Lane Cove Road and Beecroft Road that will reduce travel times and significantly improve traffic flow on the M2 motorway during the PM peak time.

For safety reasons the westbound cycle lane has been closed on this 5km section of the motorway (eastbound remains open).  An alternative westbound route has been introduced for cyclists off the M2 between Lane Cove Road and Beecroft Road.

There is no change for cyclists in eastbound access to the M2 and in their westbound access, between Beecroft Road and Old Windsor Road.
