M2 Motorway

The Hills M2 Motorway is a 21km, four lane motorway that links the lower north shore and the northwest regions of Sydney.

The M2 opened to traffic in May 1997 and is a key part of Sydney's orbital motorway network, providing an important link between the M7 and Lane Cove Tunnel and carrying approximately 110,000 vehicles a day.

The M2 is also a key public transport corridor. The motorway includes dedicated bus lanes which carry more than 45,000 bus passengers on a typical work day.

The M2 is owned and operated by Transurban.

Plans begin for M2 upgrade

The NSW Government is currently in negotiations with the motorway owner/operator Transurban to ensure the motorway can grow and develop with new and improved services along its route.

An upgrade of the M2 would relieve existing congestion points and prepare for the additional growth planned for the north-west over the next 25 years.
