Frequently asked questions

Where is the Falcon Street Gateway?

The Falcon Street Gateway comprises two north facing tolled ramps linking the Warringah Freeway to Falcon Street/Military Road.

What type of access do the ramps on the northern side of Falcon Street provide?

The Falcon Street Gateway will provide new tolled access to and from Falcon Street when travelling northbound/southbound along the Warringah Freeway.

Motorists travelling south on the Warringah Freeway can use the new ramp to access Military Road, Mosman and Manly.   Motorists on Falcon Street and Military Road can use the new tolled ramp to access the Warringah Freeway to travel north.

Are there new ramps on the southern side of Falcon Street?

For motorists travelling northbound along the Warringah Freeway travelling to Mosman/Manly, a new ramp has been constructed and operational since June 2006. It provides for 3 lanes of traffic to turn right and travel east along Military Road. The old ramp has been retained and caters for motorists travelling west (turning left) onto Falcon Street towards Crows Nest. This ramp also has a bus only facility for buses travelling along Military Road towards Mosman. Exclusive bus lanes onto Military Road will improve bus services and commuter travel times away from the city.

Is there a toll?

Drivers on the new Falcon Street Gateway, that is the northbound and southbound only ramps on the northern side of Falcon Street, will incur a toll.

How much is the toll?

Information on tolling can be found on the Connector Motorways website or click here for information on tolling charges on Sydney’s tolled roads.

Why do we have to pay a toll?

The toll is only for motorists wanting to use the new Falcon Street north facing ramps. Alternate routes (i.e. how people travelled before this project) via the Pacific Highway are still available for motorists.

The toll covers the cost of the Falcon Street ramps and contributes towards the cost of the widening of the Gore Hill Freeway to cater for the additional traffic using the new ramps and the Freeway.

Will the Falcon Street Gateway be cashless?

Yes. The Falcon Street ramps to and from the Warringah Freeway are fully electronic toll roads.

Will there be a toll free period?

The operators of the Falcon Street Gateway, Connector Motorways, will have a toll free period of one month after the opening of the ramps and the tunnel. This is to assist motorists to become familiar with the new tolled ramps and the Lane Cove Tunnel.

Pedestrians now have to cross more intersections at Falcon Street.

What is the RTA doing to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists?
The RTA and the NSW State Government are currently investigating a number of new pedestrian and cyclist initiatives in the Falcon Street area. A proposed shared pedestrian and cycleway bridge will run from Merlin Street in Neutral Bay connecting to Falcon Street. When the bridge is completed pedestrians and cyclists will have a separate facility across the Warringah Freeway avoiding delays at traffic signals on Falcon Street.   Click here for more information on Falcon Street pedestrian and cyclist facilities.
