Darling Harbour bridges repainting

The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has commenced cleaning and repainting work on the bridges above Darling Harbour in August 2008. This work is focusing on the bridges and ramps between the Sydney Exhibition Centre and the Imax Theatre.

Work on the first section between Harbour Street and the Visitor Information Centre in Darling Harbour started in August 2008 and was completed in November 2008.

Work on the remaining section between the Sydney Exhibition Centre and the Imax Theatre commenced in February 2009 and will be completed by November 2009, weather permitting.

Key features of this work

  • Blast cleaning and repainting of viaducts and ramps on six carriageways above Darling Harbour.
  • Installation of suspended decks below the roadways and some scaffolding from the ground up which will be fully enclosed and connected to dust extractors.

Benefits

  • Sustaining the long-term integrity of the bridge structures.
  • Preventing potential steel corrosion.
  • Preserving the aesthetics of the bridge structures with particular emphasis on the high profile public area in Darling Harbour.
