Darling Harbour viaducts repainting

The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) will commence cleaning and repainting work on the bridges above Darling Harbour in late 2008. This work will focus on the viaducts and ramps between the Sydney Exhibition Centre and the Imax Theatre.

Work on a small section between Harbour Street and the Visitor Information Centre in Darling Harbour will begin in early September 2008 and is scheduled to be completed by late November 2008, weather permitting.

Work on the remaining sections between the Sydney Exhibition Centre and the Imax Theatre is expected to be completed in 18 months, weather permitting.

Key features of this work

  • Blast cleaning and repainting of viaducts and ramps on six carriageways above Darling Harbour.
  • Installation of suspended decks below the roadways and some scaffolding from the ground up which will be fully enclosed and connected to dust extractors.

  • Preservation of the aesthetics of the bridge structures with particular emphasis on the high profile public area in Darling Harbour.
