The RTA is undertaking maintenance works on the roadway deck above Circular Quay Railway Station.
Roadway maintenance
In June 2006 the RTA commenced maintenance works on the expansion joints on the upper road bridge deck of the Cahill Expressway. These expansion joints allow the bridge deck to expand or contract, depending on weather conditions.
To date eight expansion joints have been replaced. The latest round of this work was completed in November 2007.
The final stage to replace the remaining seven joints is scheduled to commence in April 2008 and is currently expected to be complete by September 2008 (weather permitting).
Benefits
The replacement of the expansion joints will minimise future maintenance requirements and reduce traffic noise. It will also minimise the potential for water to filter through the joints.
During construction
These maintenance works will be carried out at night from Sunday night to Friday morning from 10pm to 5am. Traffic flow on the Cahill Expressway will be maintained during peak and business hours. The speed limit will be reduced to 50km/h for the duration of the night works as there will be uneven road surfaces.
Temporary full and partial closures of the Cahill Expressway are expected on the nights of work. Motorists are advised to follow detour instructions.
The RTA thanks motorists, residents and businesses for their patience while this work is being carried out.
Hours of work
Sunday to Friday 10pm – 5am.
