Widening and intersection improvements at Towrang and Carrick roads

Background

The Hume Highway between Sydney and Melbourne  is a major interstate corridor, carrying 20 million tonnes of freight every year.

The RTA has recently completed improvements to the intersections of the Hume Highway at Towrang and Carrick roads approximately 10 kms north of Goulburn.

The Hume Highway was also widened to accommodate a wider median to improve safety in this area.  The project extended for approximately 1.3 kms on the Hume Highway, from 300 metres west of Towrang Road to 200 metres east of Carrick Road.

This project was funded under the Australian Government’s AusLink program at a cost of $7.4 million.

Project features

  • Intersection treatments at Towrang Road and Carrick Road junctions.
  • Wider median separation along the Hume Highway between Towrang Road and Carrick Road.
  • Retention of the wire rope barrier.

Benefits

  • Improved road safety.
  • Improved access to Towrang Road and Carrick Road and the Hume Highway.
