Northern Distributor extension – Wollongong

You are invited to a community walk on Sunday 29 November 2009.

Illawarrra residents are invited to a community walk along the $110 million Northern Distributor extension, from Molloy Street, Bulli to Park Road, Woonona, to celebrate the opening of the southbound carriageway of the project.

The 2km walk begins at 10.45am at Molloy Street, Bulli and finishes at Park Road Bridge, Woonona. Travel to Bulli by train, the start of the event is a short walk from Bulli Railway Station (see map).

There is no parking provided at the event. At the conclusion of the walk, you are invited to take part in a community fun day at the Circle Shopping Centre on Park Road, Woonona.

Refreshments and free activities for all the family include:

Jumping castles
Face painting
Balloon sculpting

Return to Bulli via the foot path alongside the Northern Distributor extension or board a train at Woonona Railway Station, located next to the Circle Shopping Centre.

You should commence the walk no later than 12.30pm.

Traffic update

The southbound carriageway will be opened to traffic at the conclusion of the event on Sunday 29 November.

Work will continue on the rest of the extension, which is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2009, weather permitting.

Project benefits

The new four lane divided road will improve travel times and access to the northern suburbs of Wollongong. It will also reduce congestion on local roads.

Cyclists will be able to use the new 2.5 metre sealed shoulders so they can enjoy a smooth and safe ride.

The 3km extension also includes an overpass at Campbell Street, underpass at Park Road and new traffic signals to provide access to York Road near Alice Street.

There will also be improved safety and access around the Woonona Shopping Centre with less through traffic in the area.

Construction hours

Construction hours are Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm and Saturday from 8am to 1pm. Some work may be required outside these hours however residents and motorists will be given advanced notification. Work may change due to weather and other considerations.
