Community involvement

The RTA will continue to keep the community informed regarding the progress of the project. This may include meetings, newsletters and/or advertisements. The project information line will be maintained for the duration of the project.

Previous community involvement activities have included the following:

Community information session

A community information session was held at the commencement of the project at Kempsey Macleay RSL (25 September 2001). The purpose of this session was to introduce key members of the project team, describe the project and provide an opportunity for people to obtain information and provide comments.

To view community information session notes, download the pdf file on the Public information section of this website.

Community newsletters / community updates

Community newsletters and updates have been distributed during the project. Copies are available by contacting the freecall number (1800 306 004) or by downloading the PDF files on the Public information section of this website.

Advertisements

Newspaper advertisements are placed in local newspapers to notify the community of important project activities. Copies of these advertisements can be downloaded from the Public information section of this website.

Information and displays

At important milestones in the project's development, information has been displayed for community comment.

To view the information displays, download the pdf files on the Public information section of this website.

Community focus group

The community focus group played an important role in assisting the project team to understand local issues and community concerns. This group was formed in October 2001 and participated in the route evaluation and selection process.

Meeting notes from community focus group meetings can be found on the Public information page.

Community liaison groups

The community focus group was replaced by six precinct-based groups in March 2005, to assist in environmental assessment and design development.

Groups were formed based on the following locations:

  • South Kempsey
  • Crescent Head Road/Inches Road
  • Frogmore/Macleay River floodplain
  • Frederickton
  • Collombatti
  • Barraganyatti/Eungai Rail

The meeting notes from community liaison group meetings can be found on the Public information page.

Flooding group

In addition, a flooding group was formed in March 2005 to look at broader flooding issues and bridging options for the proposed upgrade. This group is following on from consultation with a similar group formed by Kempsey Council early in 2004.

The meeting notes from flooding group meetings can be found on the Public information page.

Stakeholder meetings

Stakeholder meetings were held with individual residents and property owners, community groups, Aboriginal people / groups and other stakeholders throughout the project. An intensive round of design meetings were held with potentially affected landowners in January and February 2005 to help identify property impacts and issues that required further consideration during the development of the project design.

Information gathered from consultation with the community has assisted in identifying issues and refining the project design.

The RTA welcome comments from the community at any time throughout the project.
