Karuah Local Aboriginal Land Council

Members of the Karuah Local Aboriginal Land Council worked in conjunction with the project team on the project. The Land Council played an important role during the identification of route options, the selection of the preferred route, and construction.

The design of the project was modified during the development process to retain and protect cultural heritage items along the route. These included scarred trees and a significant midden.

During the construction process, site officers from the Land Council were engaged to work with the construction team and inspect the ground during disturbance activities and recover and advise on any additional artefacts found. The RTA and Thiess worked with the Land Council to present these artefacts for public display.

The area is rich in Aboriginal history from one side of the Karuah River to the other and all along the foreshore areas.
